Modern Farmhouse
This is a new custom home we built. The goal here was to make the best use of an irregular (long and narrow) country lot, provide ample room for a family of four and a home-based business, provide a modern farmhouse aesthetic, and stick to a tight budget.
Project Elements
The site development of this long, skinny lot was the most difficult element of this project. It required some creativity to locate the septic system, well, house and parking (there is no on-street parking in the area) on the small build-able area of the lot available outside the setbacks. The house interior is anchored by the kitchen/ great room on the ground level, with the bedrooms, office and laundry upstairs. One luxury of building new is that we were able to design in a large pantry off the kitchen that also makes use of the space under the stairs. A pantry is a much-desired feature in our kitchen remodeling work, but there often isn’t cost-effective space available to add one to existing homes. (So we’ve gotten good at maximizing cabinet utility with space-efficiency features like pull-out pantries and blind-corner pull-outs.)

Our Approach
Each project we do is formed around that family’s project goals. We can suggest solutions to meet a range of design and budget goals.
