Concrete Oak
Over the years we remodeled three bathrooms and some outdoor spaces in this condo, and culminated with this kitchen remodel. The design goal was to create a modern but visually warm small kitchen. The client had always loved the warm tone and grain of oak, so we paired that with blue-gray painted cabinets. Small details make a big difference here in both aesthetics and functionality. For example, the gray electrical outlets and switches blend well with the backsplash, the under-cabinet lighting is recessed into the frameless cabinets, and the dishwasher has a cabinet front so it doesn’t break up the effect of interlocking forms. On the practical side, the cabinets are packed with efficiency features and ambient and task lighting were added so that the small space is as hard-working as it is beautiful.
Project Elements
The counters are matte Caesarstone with a concrete-like appearance, but with the low-maintenance practicality of quartz. The electric cooktop includes a downdraft vent, which creates a more open feel by eliminating the need for an overhead hood.
